Membership of the institutions, the boards, the foundations, and the smaller circles in which a considered life is, in fact, lived — these are not arrangements that respond to enthusiasm. They respond, when they respond at all, to the particular form of introduction that the Maison has spent some time learning to make.
The work is conducted in the manner the institutions themselves prefer, which is privately, slowly, and on the institutions' own timetables. The Maison does not promise outcomes, and we do not undertake the work where the conditions do not warrant it.
The same office advises members on patronage — the gifts and benefactions through which a member's relationship with a museum, a foundation, or a smaller and more particular institution is, over time, established and sustained.
