An office of the Maison

Acquisitions & Provenance

The Maison advises its members in the acquisition and disposition of objects of significance.

The Maison's acquisitions practice attends to the singular objects through which a life is, slowly, furnished. Watches, instruments, manuscripts, paintings of a particular kind. The work proceeds at the pace the object requires, which is rarely the pace the auction calendar prefers.

Provenance is the discipline at the centre of the practice. An object whose history cannot be fully accounted for is, in our view, not yet ready to enter a member's possession. The Maison's standards on this matter are stricter than the market's, and our members are made aware of the difference.

We do not maintain a stock and we do not act as dealers. The arrangements we conclude on behalf of members are private arrangements, between principals, in which the Maison's role is to find, to verify, and to advise.

Members enquire through their dedicated office.
